Frequently Asked Questions
How do I type Russian without a Russian keyboard?
This keyboard's transliteration mode lets you type Russian using regular Latin keys. Type 'zh' to get 'ж', 'sh' for 'ш', 'ya' for 'я', 'yu' for 'ю'. An apostrophe produces the soft sign ь. All other letters map phonetically — 'a'→а, 'b'→б, 'v'→в, 'g'→г, etc.
What is the Cyrillic alphabet?
Cyrillic is the writing system used for Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Ukrainian, and several other languages. Russian Cyrillic has 33 letters. Most have phonetic equivalents to Latin letters, which is why transliteration works well.
Can I type Russian on a Mac or iPhone?
Yes. This keyboard works in any browser on Mac, Windows, iPhone, or Android. No language pack needed — just open the page and start typing.
Is there a way to switch between Russian and English while typing?
Simply switch browser tabs. Your text is saved in the textarea. On your device keyboard, you can switch input language with Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Control+Space (Mac) for native Russian input.
